Hello, I was adding books to my "Temporary Collection for Editing" Collection (TCE) this morning when 22 of these books went 'missing'. Well, not really missing, they show up in my 'All Collections' view. But the 'Collections' field for all 22 books is blank! I was not in Power Edit at all today so this mishap wasn't caused by an inadvertent mouse click.

I did notice, while adding books this morning, that there seemed to be cache problem. I would add a book to my TCE and the Profile Page book total for TCE would be correctly incremented but when I went into my TCE Collection the last book I entered wasn't there. (Also, the book total in TCE would not be incremented.) But the 'Add Books' page did show that the book was indeed added. After a few minutes, the last book added would appear in my TCE Collection and the book total number would be right too. Again, I assumed some sort of cache issue.

But now the first 22 books that I entered today into TCE Collection have become disassociated with any Collection. Should I:
1. Wait to see if they migrate back to my TCE Collection?
2. Use 'Power Edit' to put them in my TCE Collection? - But I do not even know if 'Power Edit' works on books that have no Collection associated with them...
3. Delete the Collectionless books and reenter them.

I would use either methods 1 or 2. Method 3 is overkill.

I would use 1 before 2.

3 is likely to end you up with a bunch of duplicates.

Wait 24 hours and see if they return. That will give us an idea about what went wrong.

If they return then it was a simple caching problem.
If they don't then it's a code issue that needs to be looked at a bit more seriously.

Everyone, thank you for the replies.

cD: Waiting 24 hours on the 22 books in question is no problem. They are all going to eventually end up on my wishlist anyway. I will likely wait until the weekend before worrying about them.

I want to note here, in case this is deemed a more serious issue, that I have some peculiar habits in entering books into my 'Temporary Collection for Editing', especially when they are intended to go to my wishlist collection. The two most peculiar are as follows:

First, since I use my wishlist to decide what books to pursue, I like to replace the always more expensive hardcover editions already on my Wishlist with paperback editions when they come out. This means, in practice, that I first enter the new paperback edition onto my TCE collection. (Every new book I add goes automatically into TCE.) I get the 'duplicate message' because the hardcover edition is already on my wishlist. I go and search the author of the book in question, get both editions in my "All Collections" view (Obviously, it must be the 'All Collections' view because the Hardcover is in my wishlist collection while the new paperback is in my TCE collection.) And, while in the 'All Collections' view, I delete the hardcover from my wishlist collection.

Secondly, I sometimes forget I've already entered the book onto my wishlist, and mistakenly add the exact same book to my LT account into my TCE collection. (Again, every new book I add goes automatically, for however brief a period, into TCE.) Again, I get the 'duplicate message' in the add books screen, and I wonder what's up. After confirming that it is indeed a duplicate I delete the TCE book, usually, but not always, from the 'Add books' screen.

I believe, if I recall correctly, that this second case happened this morning.

I've had this happen numerous times, and it never seems to be fixed by waiting 24 hours. It's gotten so that I also tag books with the collection they should be in when I add them, so that I can easily recreate my collections.

As #6 divined, waiting has not fixed the problem.

#4 (conceptDawg) should I put the 22 books in question (via Power Edit) back in my "Temporary Collection for Editing" Collection or did you want to look at this further?
